on my own again, i decided to point myself toward the redwoods. the order of the day was utilitarian: 130 miles across the scorched earth and 95 degree weather that separates the cascades from the ocean range. it wasn't all bad, as i'd end up following the rogue river watershed the entire time--definitely an experience.

elk lake had a resort. it was the fourth of july. if you befriend the employees at the bar, sometimes you are offered reservations that were canceled last minute. good times.
