finished the build on carrie's a homer hilsen the night before departure. With a great set of friends: alex, carrie, and justin, we took amtrak to king city and headed for the southern edge of the ventana wilderness.
pacelining: we are very serious.
we garnered distinct interest from the bovine set.
there were several abandoned buildings along the route.
rust never sleeps
grading highways directly over passes: one of many annoying things done by traffic engineers.
we took a break in the heart of ft hunter liggett at a mission-style hotel, built by hearst and designed by julia morgan, la hacienda. the tiny town of jolon is also home to a historic mission. No photos, in hindsight I was generally creeped out by being on the base, and didn't feel too inspired to pull it out. Another thing about the base, it's territory contains the entire population of santa lucia mint: a severely endangered species endemic to vernal pools there. Watch where you march, I guess... Anyway; we pushed on.
keeping it stylish
almost off the base and into the wilderness where we'd spend the night.
